The adjustment or credit will be assessed to all rates and charges, for linehaul transportation, including arbitrary charges, minimum charges, or any other charge which consumes fuel. Review ( a ) through ( d ) below to determine price of fuel. Fuel Adjustment charges or credits will be determined each Monday (If Monday is a holiday, charges will be determined on Tuesday). Adjustments will be applied to all shipments beginning the same Monday as reported by the EIA. The adjustment charge or credit will be determined as follows:
In applying the provisions of this tariff, first determine the charge that would apply for linehaul transportation or other services that would consume fuel and assess charges determined from the table above to compute actual rate or charge. In computing charge, fractions of less than one-half cent will be dropped and fraction of one-half cent or more will be increased to the next whole cent.
a.All average prices used herein shall be based on average prices published by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the Department of Energy (DOE).
b.Average fuel price above will be the national average price of diesel fuel published weekly by the EIA except for shipments originating or destined to states included in West Coast (PADD 5) as published by the EIA. West Coast (PADD 5) includes the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
c.Shipments between points in West Coast (PADD 5) will be assessed the fuel adjustment based on the average price of diesel fuel for West Coast (PADD 5) as reported by the EIA.
d. Average fuel price for shipments originating or destined to points in West Coast (PADD 5), except shipments defined in ( c ) above, will be determined by accumulating the national average price and the West Coast (PADD 5) average reported by EIA and determining the mean thereof.
Example: Shipments from Chicago, IL to Seattle, WA
National average of 160.9 added to West Coast (PADD 5) average of 182.8 produces an average of 171.9 which would produce a fuel adjustment of 8.15% on LTL shipments. (1.609 + 1.828 = 3.437/2 = 1.7185 rounded to 1.719)
